Avast Free Antivirus
I have found out about the Avast free antivirus only recently, when I went to visit my parents. They had upgraded their pc fron Windows 98 to Windows XP and the tech guys installed this free antivirus software (don't laugh: most of the newest viruses don't "bother" to attack a Win 98 ;-)
I didn't have the chance to take a better look at this antivirus, but I managed to update it, without knowing anything else about the program. I also scanned the computer, and the use is quite intuitive.
As I was curious about it, I went to their site and saw that it is free for registered home users (wonderful!) and that the downloads are available in a lot of languages.
(They also have an antivirus for PDAs, which works as a 60 day free trial, but anyway the price is not high at all).
After that, I checked some reviews on the Internet and to my surprise they were all positive (on pcworld.com, about.com, snapfiles.com, download.com). It seems that the Avast free antivirus ranks better than other free programs.
It has two interfaces, one for beginners, another one for advanced users. Another nice thing about it is the full boot time scan. It also offers e-mail, P2P and Im scanning. One word of caution: it mustn't be used together with ZoneAlarm firewall, as it will cause the computer to crash.
And, last but not least, they also offer e-mail support!
