Many of you probably know about the possibility to make money with AdSense, but maybe you don’t know how to do it.

First and foremost, let’s answer this question: “What is AdSense?” (by the way, the proper name of this program is Google AdSense).

It is a program put into place by the well-known search engine. This is how it works: Google displays ads on the sites of the webmasters who choose to sign up for the AdSense program. The ads are automatically targeted to the content of the page they are placed on. Each time someone clicks on an ad, the webmaster (you!) earns money (from a few cents to a few dollars, depending on how competitive that specific keyword is). Most of the sites get approved, just make sure your site complies with their Terms and Conditions.

As soon as you get approved, you can log into your account and choose the layout of the ads you want to be displayed on your site. You can also choose the colour of the text, of the links and of the borders. The program will generate a code and you just have to copy and paste it on your page.

After this, each time a visitor comes to your page, s/he will also see ads targeted to the content on your page. As your visitor was already looking for similar keywords, there are more probabilities that s/he might click on the most relevant ads... and that's how you make money with Adsense!

In order to maximize your earnings, you should create content-rich pages on which the ads will be placed. This way, you will attract targeted visitors and you will also get targeted ads, which are more likely to be clicked on.

Of course, there is also the question: how much money can one make with Google Adsense? It depends on a number of factors: how many pages your site has, if they are optimized, how much traffic they get, how much the advertisers pay for the keywords you targeted.



A big no-no with AdSense is to encourage visitors to click on your ads or to click on your own ads... just think about it, why would Google admit such a thing? Fraudulent clicks mean more money paid by the advertisers, for people who are not really interested in their products. If Google tollerated this, the advertisers would soon run away!

Another way to make money with AdSense is the possibility to add a Google Search Box to your pages: if people don’t find what they are looking for, they'll probably insert a search term in the box, and Google will provide a list of search results. The first places are reserved for paying ads, so when people click on them, you get paid too. The Google search box also allows your visitors to search your site.

(In case you want to now who provides the ads: there are advertisers who use Google’s AdWords program, that is, they submit their ads to Google, and Google places them on your pages. The publishers of the ads pay Google only when someone clicks on their ad, then Google pays a part of this money to the webmaster (you!) on whose site the ad was found (and, of course, it also keeps the rest). That's how you earn money with adsense - it's a win-win-win situation.)
